Jim Gustafson was born in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated with honors in philosophy from Florida Southern College and received his Master of Divinity degree from Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. Ordained in the United Methodist Church, he has served as a local church pastor, conference leader, pastoral counselor, and hospice director.

For thirty years, he worked as a broadcasting executive and management consultant. He is married and has two daughters and two granddaughters.

Jim now lives in Fort Myers, Florida where he works, writes, reads, plays golf, and pulls weeds.
