Things People Say

Often I hear people say things I don't understand. When I hear them, I look around and nobody else seems to be confused. So, I don't say anything. Perhaps I am the only one who doesn't understand what people mean when they say:

  • "I don't have all day." - How can anybody not have all day? We allhave all day.

  • "It's the least I can do." - Why would anybody want to admit theyare doing the least they can do?

  • * I saw a woman wearing a T shirt with "Guess" on it. I said, "Thyroid problem?" She seemed offended.

  • "Winners never quit and quitters never win." - Now what do I doabout, "Quit while you're ahead?"

  • "They are disgruntled employees." - What is a "gruntled" employee?

  • A "bus station" is where a bus stops. A "train station" iswhere atrain stops. Why do we place people at "workstations?"

  • Why do people say, "It goes without saying," before they saysomething?

  • When someone says, "I'm not a complete idiot," does that mean theyhave parts missing?* "You are unique, just like everyone else?"

Confused, I am
