Cling Free

Remember rubbing a balloon against your body when you were a kid? It would cling to you. It was magic.
You can buy rolls of flimsy, sweet smelling stuff to eliminate static cling. They have spray too. One such product is called “Cling Free.” In life and laundry, clinging is generally not a desirable thing. Being “cling free” is an excellent way to be. Even clinging balloons become annoying after a few minutes.
Clinging to things and people is problematic. It slows movement and inhibits joy. It is fear based loss prevention. We can be so fearful of losing what we have that we are unable to fully enjoy having it. Clinging keeps us from accepting new things that come our way. Clinging and receiving are unattractive opposites.
Being clung to is equally unproductive. Having the weight of another placed upon you is burdensome. It’s not love. It’s a load. It’s not caring. It’s carrying. There are times in every relationship when we need to lean on one and other. That’s what being supportive is about. Most of the time, however, we are meant to be self-supporting, upright, and free. We are intended to celebrate, encourage, and stand-by, not lean on another.
